Optimal awakening time for open-heart surgery

The optimal time for patients to wake up after craniotomy depends on the type and severity of the primary disease, and cannot be generalized. In the case of brain hemorrhage, if the bleeding volume is small and the respiratory function is normal, the patient will wake up gradually after surgery as the effect of anesthesia slowly dissipates. If the patient has a large amount of bleeding, especially when combined with respiratory insufficiency, routine sedation and analgesic treatment are needed to control intracranial pressure and prevent rebleeding after surgery, and the best time for the patient to wake up may be 2-3 days after surgery. In case of brain tumor patients undergoing craniotomy, if they are clearly conscious before surgery and no complications appear, it is generally better to wake up within 6 hours after surgery. If the patient is in a coma before surgery, the time to awaken after surgery varies from person to person and may be within 2 weeks, or may be in a prolonged coma. After craniotomy, patients need to be turned and tapped frequently to prevent bed sores and pneumonia, and to eat more digestive foods to avoid constipation.
