The main ways of transmission of syphilis are sexual contact and vertical transmission. Among them, sexual contact is the most common, accounting for more than 95%, because syphilis patients have syphilis spirochetes in their blood and body fluids, and patients are infected through sexual contact or small breaks in the skin and mucous membranes; mothers are syphilis patients, syphilis spirochetes can be transmitted to the fetus, leading to the occurrence of congenital syphilis. Syphilis can be transmitted to the fetus from a mother with syphilis, leading to congenital syphilis. Syphilis can be contracted medically by transfusion of blood containing syphilis spirochetes or by using unclean products during gynecological examinations.
