The survival time of chronic nephritis depends on the type of kidney lesion as well as the effect of treatment. Generally patients with chronic nephritis, if well controlled, can survive for a long time without affecting the survival time of patients. Some acute glomerulonephritis, which has a more rapid onset, causes abnormal kidney function in patients at the early stages of the disease and may lead to progression to uremia. The survival time of patients entering hemodialysis depends on various factors such as the patient’s age, underlying disease, and the effect of dialysis. The longest surviving dialysis patient in the world is currently over 50 years of age on dialysis. Most patients are on dialysis for about 10 to 15 years.
