Acne is usually caused by a deficiency of Yin in the liver and kidneys, which leads to a deficiency of Yin and fire, and can be treated with Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan (知柏地黄丸). The main ingredients of Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan are Zhi Mu, Huang Bai, Mudan Pi, Shan Yao, Shu Di Huang, Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum, Ze Xie Di, Poria. The formula is based on the Six-flavored Di Huang Wan with the addition of Zhi Mu and Huang Bai, which strengthens the effect of clearing deficiency heat. In the formula, Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata, Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum and Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum nourish kidney yin; Mudan Pi clears heat and cools blood; Poria invigorates the spleen and induces diuresis; and Ze Xie diarrhea induces diuresis. The combination of these herbs can nourish yin and tonify the kidney, and clear the effect of deficiency fire. It is mainly used for symptoms such as dry throat and thirst, hot flashes and night sweating (abnormal sweating after going to sleep and stopping sweating after waking up) and acne. Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan adverse reactions are not clear, allergic to the product is prohibited, pregnant women and allergic individuals should be cautious. Do not eat cold, greasy, spicy and stimulating food during the medication.
