Gout is an ancient and fashionable disease, ancient because it has existed in both ancient China and the West. In Western countries, it is known as the emperor’s disease because it occurs in noble groups. It is fashionable because with the improvement of living conditions nowadays, more and more people are joining this group, and even children as young as 11 or 12 years old have also developed gout, which has a tendency to go hand in hand with hypertension and diabetes. Gout, from the point of view of Chinese medicine, the pathogenesis is nothing more than dampness and heat, phlegm and heat blockage, liver and kidney Yin deficiency; while Western medicine believes that it is due to eating too much wine, seafood, animal offal, resulting in the accumulation of purines, enzyme metabolism ability is reduced, resulting in abnormally high levels of uric acid in the blood, naturally pain! The explanations of both Chinese and Western medicine do not answer the question, why do most of the typical symptoms of gout attacks start in the metatarsophalangeal joint of the big toe? Because whether it’s damp heat or increased uric acid levels in the blood, most joints in the body should be affected, but why is the big toe joint the only one? Why is it only in the big metatarsophalangeal joint? And why is it gradually spreading to the arch, ankle, knee, wrist and fingers? In the past year, I have seen ten patients with acute gout attacks, all of whom felt that although they could take medication to stop the pain, it kept recurring and made them feel bored, so they sought treatment from Seven Needles. After applying the theory of meridians, qi and blood and the upstream and downstream theory of the seven needles, all ten patients recovered beautifully and did not intentionally pay attention to their diets in general. Let’s take a look at the meridians of the big toe: “Ling Shu. The spleen foot Taiyin’s vein starts at the end of the big toe, follows the white flesh interval on the inside of the finger, after passing the nucleus bone ……, belongs to the spleen and the stomach. The nuclear bones are preceded by the Xingying point, and followed by the infusion of the original point Tai Bai, Xingying and infusion points are two important points in the process of convergence of Qi and blood from small to large, and are originally the place where the Qi and blood of the meridian is generated. The Taiyin Spleen meridian is connected to the Yangming Gastric meridian, and the Ling Shu. The “meridian” chapter: “foot Yangming stomach meridian, from the nose …… belong to the stomach contact spleen. Its branches, not tarsus, into the big toe, out of its end”. When the stomach meridian, which is full of blood and gas, and the spleen meridian, which is full of blood and gas, carry the blood and blood material through the branches to the spleen meridian, which is also full of blood but less gas, it is like a train running at high speed suddenly hitting a slow train in front of it, which is also heavy but slow, and it is bound to slow down, and the stomach meridian carries the blood and blood containing crystalline material to the spleen meridian. The narrowing of the Xingyi channel and the nature of the Spleen meridian, which has less gas and more blood, gives them a good opportunity to precipitate and accumulate, hence the pain and redness of the big toe! In the acute stage of gout, according to the theory of meridian circulation and upstream and downstream, we adopt a combination of local and holistic approach, using the seven needles of Lixin, local blood pricking, downstream dredging, and upstream opening the floodgates. Laxation of heat and cooling, dispersal of bruises and swelling, and pain relief! The redness, swelling and heat pain in the acute stage of gout can basically be solved, and can achieve the therapeutic effect of patients walking in with support and walking out by themselves, which is even faster than taking colchicine, the special medicine for gout!
