Combination of Chinese and Western medicine is the best choice to treat chronic liver disease

As we all know, China is a large country of liver disease, leaving aside acute liver disease, the existing chronic hepatitis B virus infection alone is about 93 million people (including about 20 million cases of chronic hepatitis B), and about 30 million chronic hepatitis C virus infection, plus the high rate of fatty liver disease in the urban population, as well as a variety of other chronic liver diseases (such as immune liver disease, drug-related liver disease, schistosomiasis, congenital liver disease, etc.). Schistosomiasis, congenital liver disease, etc.), there are hundreds of millions of patients. Perhaps the Creator of nature has been kind to the Chinese nation, which has suffered so much, and has preserved for us a great treasure trove of Chinese medicine. It brings good news to the majority of patients. For most patients with chronic hepatitis B and C, infection with the hepatitis virus is the initiating factor of the disease, and antiviral therapy is undoubtedly the active choice. However, it is undeniable that the antiviral efficacy is not yet satisfactory due to the inadequacy or side effects of the antiviral western drugs themselves, the variability of virus resistance and the differences in the immune response ability situation of the human body. To further improve the efficacy, other treatments need to be applied in combination. Inflammation is the main cause of hepatocyte damage and necrosis, leading to abnormal liver function, increased transaminase activity and the appearance of jaundice. Liver protection and anti-yellowness treatment can protect liver cells and reduce or eliminate liver inflammation. There are a few western drugs and a large number of proprietary Chinese medicines that can be applied in this area. The human immune system has a complex function; a partially depressed immune function is unable to suppress and kill the hepatitis virus, while an overly enhanced immune function can aggravate liver inflammation. Therefore, the ideal immunotherapy requires a dual function, i.e., to regulate the low part and to suppress the enhanced part. While the current immune-modifying western drugs are not yet able to achieve the best of both worlds, some herbal medicines have shown to have a bidirectional immunomodulatory effect. Treating fatty liver with lipid-lowering western medicine has the risk of damaging the liver. Traditional Chinese medicine, on the other hand, can cure fatty liver. Liver fibrosis is an overreaction of the body to repair damaged liver tissues. A large amount of fibrous tissue is deposited in the liver, which can break the normal structure of the liver and form cirrhosis; obstruct the microcirculation of blood, making liver cells lack nutrition and aggravating the damage eventually leading to liver failure; increase the portal vein pressure, leading to splenomegaly, esophageal varices, ascites and black stools with vomiting blood. Currently, only Chinese herbal medicine can take on the important task of treatment of anti-liver fibrosis and improving liver microcirculation. In addition, herbal tonics can be individualized to the patient’s condition and are particularly effective in eliminating symptoms. The efficacy of Chinese herbal medicine in treating liver cancer, surviving with tumor and prolonging life has been widely reported. Therefore, I believe that the combination of Chinese and Western medicine has characteristics and advantages in treating liver disease and is the best choice at present.
