Early diagnosis and treatment according to child growth and development is the key

The growth and development process of children can be divided into age stages such as infancy, early childhood, pre-puberty and puberty. Infancy refers to the period from birth to 1 week of age, early childhood usually refers to 1-3 weeks of age, and pre-puberty from 3 weeks of age to the beginning of puberty, which is also called the plateau period of growth because the growth rate does not change much. The puberty development period generally starts from 11-12 years old to 17-18 years old for girls and from 13-14 years old to 18-20 years old for boys, generally about 2 years earlier for girls than for boys. Children’s height changes in their growth and development process also has a certain pattern. The growth rate is very rapid in infancy and early childhood, but the growth rate slows down a bit each year in early adolescence, with a trough after about 7 years of age, and then gradually increases a bit each year until puberty, when the growth rate accelerates rapidly and a growth spurt occurs in children, and children no longer grow taller in late adolescence because the epiphysis gradually closes. After the epiphysis closes, there is no drug that can make children taller again, so treatment for short stature must be carried out before the epiphysis closes. Some studies have shown that the best time to treat growth hormone is during the plateau period of children’s growth. The younger the child is during this period, the better the effect of growth hormone treatment; at the same time, the younger the child is, the lighter the weight is, the less medication is used, and the cost of treating short stature can be reduced. Some parents think that children are born with short height, fatness and thinness, and never think that their children are suffering from dwarfism, until they grow up, when they go to see a doctor because their short stature prevents them from finding the ideal job, and at this time they have already missed the time for treatment. Other parents are influenced by the concept of “some children grow earlier and some children grow later” and do not go to the hospital in time to check and treat their children when they are found to be lower than their peers, resulting in the loss of precious time for children to grow taller, which can only be regretted for the rest of their lives. Therefore, when you find that your child’s height is significantly lower than that of children of the same sex and age, you should go to a large hospital for treatment as soon as possible.
