Diagnostic Guidelines for Small Pulmonary Nodules Updated

The latest version of the NCCN guidelines recommend surgery for small nodules larger than 10 mm in the non-material or partially material lung if, after 3-6 months of follow-up, they are found to increase in size or density. This coincides with the teachings of my Japanese mentor for when I studied at NCC in ’09. It seems that the work of Japanese instructors and colleagues is recognized worldwide. “For non-solid or part solid nodule newly detected by CTscanning, f/u in 2 years, the first year, 2-3 mo/per, the second year, 6 mo/per, then. if increase in size or density, surgery”. This is my training notes in NCC. Li Jindong, Department of Thoracic Surgery, Henan Cancer Hospital If after 3-6 months of follow-up, the small nodules are stable, it is recommended to continue follow-up for 6-12 months, or biopsy, or consider surgical resection (if lung cancer is still suspected, the lesion is suitable for lumpectomy, and the patient is willing to do so).
