Thyroid tumors should be cut in time

Recently, the thyroid breast surgery department of Lee Wai Lee Hospital was admitted to a case of huge thyroid tumor and some of the tissue cells had become cancerous, but fortunately it had not metastasized yet and was removed completely. Doctors reminded that thyroid tumors are prone to malignant changes in the long term and should be removed in time. This is a 56-year-old woman who found “right thyroid mass” during a medical checkup 10 years ago, but didn’t care about it because it was relatively small. Although the lump grew gradually, several puncture examinations indicated that it was “benign” and the doctor suggested her to have it removed surgically many times, but she was afraid and could not make up her mind until it grew to the size of a fist and protruded from her body, causing symptoms such as chest tightness, shortness of breath and other breathing difficulties, sometimes even waking up in the middle of the night. Lee Wai Lee Thyroid and Breast Surgery. After being admitted to the hospital, the doctor performed “thyroid lobectomy” the next day after analyzing and evaluating the results of a series of tests such as CT and ultrasound of the neck. The tumor was removed intact, oval-shaped, 15*12 cm, after nearly 1.5 hours of careful surgery. Half an hour later, the pathology showed that the tumor was cancerous, but fortunately the cancer was still confined to the inner part of the gland and had not metastasized yet, and she was discharged happily 3 days after the surgery. According to the main surgeon, Dr. Zhang Hai, deputy chief physician, such a large tumor in the neck is relatively rare nowadays, and the long-term existence of such a tumor not only compresses the trachea and causes it to twist and collapse, but also is prone to malignant transformation. Among thyroid cancer, differentiated thyroid cancer with good prognosis accounts for most of them and can be treated well through surgery. However, papillary carcinoma less than 1 cm in size can be followed up for a long time and progress slowly in some patients, while in others, tumor enlargement and lymph node metastasis occur at an early stage. If the tumor invades important organs in the neck such as trachea and esophagus, it will be much more difficult to operate and the effect of treatment will not be satisfactory. Therefore, if you find a thyroid lump or “nodule”, you should go to a hospital in time to see a specialist and not to be paralyzed. Nowadays, the surgical methods for thyroid tumors have been improved, and most of them can be removed through minimally invasive lumpectomy. Compared with traditional surgery, lumpectomy has clearer anatomy, less intraoperative bleeding, less damage, significant cosmetic effect and fast postoperative recovery. As long as the indications are reasonably grasped, lumpectomy can also achieve the goal of radical cure for thyroid cancer.
