Do I need to use hepatitis B vaccine after liver transplantation for hepatitis B-associated liver disease?

I have always had an attitude about whether the hepatitis B vaccine can be useful after hepatitis B liver transplantation. Recently, I went to Beijing to attend a collaborative meeting of several major liver transplantation centers in China. At the meeting, some centers reported that after 1 year post-transplantation, hepatitis B vaccination (without HBIG) should be given regularly, once every 6 months, and after 2 to 3 years, about 20% of patients can develop autonomous immunity and no more antiviral drugs and HBIG are needed. Some centers have also reported that the combined application of antivirals (adefovir + lamivudine or boludine) without HBIG results in hepatitis B virus reinfection rates comparable to those of antivirals + HBIG alone. Several major centers are currently preparing to start a large sample writing study on this topic, which would undoubtedly be very good news for liver transplant patients if the desired results are obtained.
