Does the absence of stones in the gallbladder mean that it will not become inflamed?

Clinically, we see that many patients have the wrong idea that if there are no stones in the gallbladder, there will be no inflammation in the future, and this is one of the reasons why many patients opt for biliary preservation surgery. In fact, this idea is wrong. Inflammation can occur without stones in the gallbladder and is clinically known as non-lithotripsy cholecystitis, which accounts for about 5-10% of acute cholecystitis. In non-lithotripsy, there are no stones in the gallbladder, but the reason why inflammation occurs remains unclear. The clinical manifestations of non-calculous cholecystitis are similar to those of acute cholecystitis. Symptoms of abdominal pain are often masked by the patient’s presence of other serious illnesses, making it easy to misdiagnose and delay treatment. The risk of surgery is greatly increased once the gallbladder disease has progressed to gangrene and perforation.
