Patient: Patient, male, now in his sophomore year. On November 19, 2006, he was seen at the Changjiang Road Counseling Center of Hefei Hospital and his test results showed that he was depressed. On November 19, 2006, he started to take medication — Xitongjing, and on December 25, 2006, he visited the Hospital of An Medical College. From 2006.12.25 to 2007.2.1, he took Zoloft and carbamazepine, but stopped taking them because of swelling after carbamazepine. 2007.2.2 to 2007.5.8, he used Dextran (stopped due to excessive dreaming), Sellett (stopped due to poor effect), and Remeron (stopped due to fattening), and then took Boloxin and Clear Brain and Rejuvenate with better effect. 2007.6.23 to 2007.7.27, he switched to Amitriptyline. 7.27.2007, changed to amitriptyline, after taking it, had adverse reactions and stopped using it. 2007.7.27-2008.10.30 took Boloxin, four capsules a day at first, then three capsules a day. From 2008.11.1 to 2009.12.1, I started to take venlafaxine extended-release capsules, one capsule per day. He has been living a normal life for more than a year, except that he talks in his sleep at dawn, and he has excellent academic performance and gets along well with his classmates. From 2009.12.2-2010.2.15, he took Boloxin one capsule in the morning and one capsule in the evening, and his study life was normal. 2010.2.16-3.5 changed to fluoxetine hydrochloride capsule one capsule every morning, stopped taking the medicine after 19 days of diarrhea (I guess it was caused by taking the medicine). 2010.3.6-5.15 took venlafaxine extended release capsule one capsule per day (75g). 2010.5.16 to present took Boloxin one capsule in the morning and one capsule in the evening. I sometimes talk in my sleep at dawn. (From November 2006 to July 2010, I have been taking the medicine for three years and eight months). My questions are 1. Can I stop taking the medication? Will taking the medicine for a long time cause other diseases? 2. The doctor who saw me suggested that I should take it until I graduate from college, can you please give me some advice on treatment? Thank you! Lu Weihong, Psychiatry Department, Shanghai Mental Health Center
