What you don’t know about pubic pain syndrome

In the pain clinic, we often encounter patients who often stammer, look around and whisper when asked to describe their condition, sometimes even the doctor cannot hear them clearly. After careful questioning, we learn that they are suffering from perineal pain syndrome, which is a very specific pain site, located in the anus or urine (vulva? Urethral opening?) Some patients can clearly point out the location of the pain, but most of them cannot. Patients are often reluctant to talk to their family or friends about the disease they are suffering from, and they find it difficult to talk about it, and they are reluctant to go to the hospital, thus delaying the treatment and making the pain more complicated. Perineal pain is often caused by cancer or chronic pain in the pelvic area. The perineal sensation is innervated by rich sympathetic nerves and somatic nerves, which is a difficult pain disorder to treat clinically, especially in patients with long duration of disease, the proportion of sympathetic pain is greater, and it is also more difficult to treat. Nerve block therapy is often effective in patients with refractory perineal pain syndrome, and pain physicians advise patients that it does not matter if they have unspeakable pain, the important thing is to treat it early.
