Do normal people have syphilis titers?

The tests for syphilis can be broadly divided into two categories: specific and non-specific. With non-specific tests, it is possible to have titers that can also be detected in normal people. Because there are titers are referred to these non-specific tests, including the rapid plasma reactin test and the toluidine red unheated serological test. Their titers, which are mainly used to monitor the effectiveness of treatment in patients with syphilis, may also be positive in people who do not have syphilis. So a normal person who does not have syphilis does not have to worry too much if he or she just has a positive result or a titer for these tests that are non-specific, because it is probably not syphilis. In order to identify this, a syphilis-specific antibody test can be done. If this antibody is negative, the possibility of syphilis can be ruled out.
