How to diagnose and treat depression

Post-stroke depression is a common complication associated with stroke, which is a major cause of death and has a high prevalence, underdiagnosis and suicide risk. Early detection and treatment of the disease is therefore particularly important. Comprehensive treatment of post-stroke depression includes non-pharmacological and TCM herbal medicine and acupuncture treatments such as antidepressants, rTMS, ECT, music, psychological and social support. According to TCM, the disease develops due to excessive worry, qi stagnation, and internal injury of emotion. Treatment is based on draining the liver, moving qi, and relieving depression, and can include Yu Jin, Gardenia, Atractylodes, Chai Hu, Chuanxiong, Xiang Shen, and Sha Ren.
