Chinese medicine classification of dysmenorrhea

There are five main types of TCM classification of dysmenorrhea in clinical practice. First, Qi stagnation and blood stasis type. The main manifestations are swelling and pain in the abdomen before or during menstruation, refusal to press, low menstrual flow, poor menstrual flow or pain relief after the clot is discharged, and a purple tongue or petechiae. Second, cold clotting and blood stasis type. Patients mainly present with cold pain in the abdomen before or during menstruation, refusing to press, which is relieved by heat, and menstruation can be pushed back, with low volume and blood clots. Patients mainly have a pale complexion, cold extremities, white tongue coating, and a sunken and tight pulse. Third, damp-heat stasis type. The main manifestation is pain in the abdomen before or during menstruation, with a burning sensation or pain even in the lumbosacral region. It is usually accompanied by prolonged menstruation or heavy menstruation, increased leucorrhea, yellow and thick, yellow urine, red tongue, yellow and greasy coating, slippery pulse, etc. Fourthly, it is mainly the type of weakness of Qi and blood. The main manifestations are vague pain in the abdomen during or after menstruation, low menstrual flow, clear color, lack of color, fatigue, light tongue and weak pulse. Fifth, it is mainly the type of kidney qi deficiency. It is characterized by pain in the abdomen during or 1-2 days after menstruation, pain even in the lumbosacral region, low menstrual volume and dark color, accompanied by dizziness, tinnitus, forgetfulness, insomnia, light red tongue, thin white fur, and sunken pulse.
