Anyone who experiences pain and swelling in the lower abdomen around the time of menstruation or during menstruation, accompanied by lumbago or other discomfort, to such a degree that it affects the quality of life and work, is called dysmenorrhea.
Primary dysmenorrhea is common in adolescence and develops 6 to 12 months after menarche. The pain starts after the menstrual period and appears as early as 12 hours before menstruation; the pain is most severe on the first day of menstruation and lasts for 2 to 3 days. Chinese medicine believes that this disease is mostly caused by cold and cold drinking during menstruation, sitting and lying on wet ground, braving rain and wading in water, and the cold evil guest in the ramifications of dysmenorrhea; or weak endowment, deficiency of liver and kidney, deficiency of essence and blood, plus the deficiency of essence and blood after menstruation, resulting in deficiency of ramifications and loss of nourishment of the uterine veins and dysmenorrhea.
