Master Hsing Yun on the stress of working people

  We all carry a lot of pressure every day, physically from old age and disease, and psychologically from greed and anger. When it comes to stress, not only do we create stress ourselves, but society also brings us a lot of stress, such as the stress of work, the stress of schoolwork, the stress of friends, the stress of family responsibilities, and so on. It is really remarkable that people are born in this world, how many pressures they have to bear, and some of them can still live a free and comfortable life, which is a great and not easy value and meaning of life. What does it mean to practice? It is to fight with worries and defeat them, then I can live a free and easy life. Everyone has to struggle with their work and responsibilities, so that they can be an outstanding person, so that they can live comfortably, joyfully and peacefully. In fact, whether we are at home or at home, we are all trying to live a meaningful life, but how to create the meaning of life depends on how we can eliminate stress.  If you ask me how to eliminate stress, I say, “Self-training, self-enrichment, self-enhancement of the ability to resist stress: when the ability is strong, the stress will naturally be reduced.” Let’s say I’m working in society, you don’t like me, you don’t like me, you bully me, you hit me, this is also a kind of pressure, but I can find ways to change this pressure. For example, if you call me a jerk, you question what I’m doing here, you tell me to stand to the side, if I yell at you, if I fight with you, I may not be able to beat you, I may use another method. I said, “Yes, I’m a jerk! I’m sorry, I’ll follow your instruction and step to the side!” Maybe your blazing anger will immediately be tempered a bit, and you may even sympathize with me. Are you saying I’m showing weakness? No! This is me using great cultivation, using great wisdom, using strong instincts to surpass you!  You and I work in the same hospital, you rose to the director, rose to the attending physician, rose to be the director, how can not my turn? I am not equal, of course, the pressure will be aggravated, I will live a very hard life. But I thought about it: “Shame! My skills and my popularity are not as good as his! He is better than me, he is my colleague, he has been promoted, this is a good thing, I should bless him.” How joyful it is to think so! If my skills are high, and he is indeed inferior to me, and he got it by flattering and patronizing me, I don’t have to be upset, but still think, “His karma is better than mine, my karma, my public relations, or I am not as good as he can speak well, and some other part of me may still be inferior to him.” If you think about it this way, you might not be so tense and you’ll be able to find a stepping stone, so why bother with your own misery? Each of us is supposed to come to earth for happiness, so don’t look for your own misery, look for your own happiness!  As for how to find happiness, it is to have no pressure, to throw pressure, garbage, and heavy burdens aside, the lighter the pressure on the heart, the better life will be lived, and the more meaningful life will be naturally!
