How long to take omeprazole for duodenal ulcer

Generally speaking, patients with duodenal ulcer need to use omeprazole continuously for about one month when applying treatment. At present, the main drugs for the treatment of duodenal ulcer include drugs to inhibit gastric acid secretion and drugs for gastric mucosa protection. The drugs that inhibit gastric acid secretion include omeprazole, pantoprazole, rabeprazole, ranitidine, etc. Gastric mucosa-protective drugs include metsulin, aluminum thioglycollate, misoprostol, etc. It is recommended that patients with duodenal ulcer be tested for H. pylori first. The most commonly used clinical test is the breath test, which is non-invasive, convenient and easily accepted by patients. If the test is positive for H. pylori, the patient should be actively treated with anti-H. pylori therapy, which must be given for four weeks with omeprazole drugs. In addition, patients are advised to review their gastroscopy after treatment with a full course of medication, and if the ulcer heals, it is sufficient to continue taking the drug for about two weeks, without the need for long-term use.
