TCM Psychotherapy

Chinese medicine psychotherapy is colorful and interesting, and there are many stories of medical treatment that have been passed down for thousands of years, and there is a sense that “happiness, anger, sadness and joy” are all medicines. The legend says that during the Warring States period, King Min of Qi was suffering from depression and asked Wen Zhi, a famous doctor from Song, to come and treat him. After a detailed diagnosis, Wen Zhi said to the prince, “The king of Qi can only be cured by provoking anger, and if I provoke the king of Qi, he will definitely kill me.” Hearing this, the prince pleaded, “As long as you can cure the father’s illness, the mother and I will make sure that your life is safe.” Wen Zhi could not resist, so he had to agree. He immediately made an appointment with the king of Qi to see the doctor, but the first time Wen Zhi did not come, and then he made a second appointment, and the second time he did not come, and then he made a third appointment, and the third time he also missed the appointment. When the king of Qi saw that Wen Zhi failed to invite him and missed three appointments in a row, he was very angry and scolded him. After a few days, Wen Zhi suddenly came to the king’s bed and asked for medical advice, without even seeing him, without taking off his shoes, and provoked him with foul language. According to the principle of “anger is better than thinking” in Chinese medicine, Wen Zhi used the treatment of provoking the patient to cure the king of Qi’s melancholy, leaving a typical example of psychotherapy in the history of medical cases in China. There was an inspector in the Qing Dynasty who suffered from mental depression and was sad and sullen all day long, and his condition was getting worse day by day after several treatments. He was recommended to an old Chinese doctor for treatment. The old doctor said to the inspector, “You are suffering from menstrual disorder, you will be fine if you take care of it.” The inspector listened to the belly laugh, feel this is a confused doctor how even men and women can not distinguish. After that, every time I think about it, I still can’t help but secretly laugh, and over time, depression is actually good. A year later, the old Chinese doctor met with the Lord Inspector again and said to him: “The disease you were suffering from in the past was ‘depression is a knot of qi’, and there is no good medicine, but if you are happy, smile and open your mouth often, the qi will be unblocked and can be cured. Your disease is in a happy and laughter time and time again without medicine and cure.” Only then did the inspector realize, and thanked him. In the Ming Dynasty, there was a farmer’s son named Li Daji, who was diligent and studious since childhood, the first year of the examination on the talent, the next year and won the scholar, the third year and the scholar and the good news came year after year, the father of the farmer, so happy that even the mouth hung to the ears, every person will boast, every boast will laugh, every laugh will laugh more than, over time, can not be independent, became a manic laughter disease, hired many doctors to treat, all to no avail. Li Dajian had no choice but to ask an imperial doctor for treatment. The imperial doctor thought for a long time before he said to Li: “The disease can be cured, but please forgive me for any disrespect.” Li said, “I will follow the doctor’s orders and dare not disobey.” The imperial doctor then sent someone to Li Daji’s hometown to report the funeral and said to his father, “Your son has unfortunately passed away due to an acute illness.” Upon hearing the sad news, Li Dajian’s father burst into tears and stopped laughing maniacally due to his excessive grief. Soon after, the imperial doctor sent another person to tell Li’s father, “After your son’s death, he was fortunate to meet the doctor’s wonderful hands and was revived from the dead and saved.” Li’s father stopped grieving again. In this way, the manic laughter disease that lasted for ten years was cured. In terms of psychological medicine, this so-called opposite therapy. After hearing this, Zhang Zihe thought that it was difficult to take medicine for this disease, so he told the patient’s family to get two women to dress up as clowns in a play and make many comical gestures, which really made the patient feel happy. Once the patient was happy, the illness was relieved. Then, Zhang Zihe asked the patient’s family to invite two women with strong appetite to eat in front of the patient, and the patient wolfed down the food, and watched and ate unconsciously.
