Should I opt for a caesarean section for gallbladder stones?

With the yearly improvement of people’s living standard and the change of dietary structure, the incidence of gallbladder stones increases year by year. The treatment of patients with gallbladder stones is surgical
The main treatment is surgery. There are two types of surgery: one is the centuries-old traditional cesarean cholecystectomy, and the other is laparoscopic cholecystectomy, which has been developed rapidly in recent years. Since laparoscopic cholecystectomy has the advantages of less trauma, less pain, faster recovery and shorter hospital stay, it has become the first choice for patients with gallbladder stones in recent years. We often hear patients asking their doctors to perform laparoscopic cholecystectomy on them. It is not up to the patient to decide whether to perform a cesarean section or a laparoscopic procedure for gallbladder stones, but the surgeon should decide the procedure based on the patient’s actual condition. If the patient is in good health and can tolerate the surgical treatment, caesarean section is feasible for all such patients. However, laparoscopic cholecystectomy is not feasible in every such patient. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy has a history of more than 100 years and is a very mature surgery with fewer complications, while laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a minimally invasive surgery developed in recent years. Although the indications for laparoscopic surgery are gradually relaxed with the gradual improvement of surgical instrumentation and technology, there are still a large proportion of patients who cannot undergo laparoscopic surgery. For example, gallbladder stones suspected to be associated with gallbladder cancer, gallbladder stones associated with septal hernia and ventral hernia. If laparoscopic surgery is performed in all patients with gallbladder stones, more serious complications may occur, which defeats the purpose of laparoscopic surgery. Laparoscopic surgery can be unacceptable for some patients with financial difficulties due to expensive surgical instruments, higher technical requirements, and higher costs for the patient. In general, the surgical method should be chosen according to the actual situation of the patient. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy can be applied to most patients with gallbladder stones, and some patients still need to undergo cesarean cholecystectomy.
