Is menstrual cramps normal?

Abdominal pain during menstruation is called dysmenorrhea. Whether dysmenorrhea is normal or not needs to be analyzed according to the patient’s specific situation and cannot be generalized. Some women have abdominal pain since the first menstruation, which is called primary dysmenorrhea, while some women have dysmenorrhea many years after menstruation, which is called secondary dysmenorrhea. Usually women only experience slight discomfort in the lower abdomen or lumbosacral pain before or during menstruation, which does not affect their life and work, and is a normal phenomenon. It is normal to keep warm and drink hot water regularly. If the dysmenorrhea is serious and even affects your work and life, you should go to the hospital to carefully examine the cause of dysmenorrhea. Primary dysmenorrhea, mostly seen in women who have not had children, may be caused by tight uterine opening and spasmodic contraction of the uterus during menstruation. Secondary dysmenorrhea, on the other hand, may be caused by organic diseases in the patient’s pelvis, such as endometriosis, adenomyosis, etc. Therefore, it is recommended that women should go to the hospital as soon as they experience dysmenorrhea in order to confirm the cause and provide targeted treatment.
