What if the patient refuses to go to school?

  1. Reasons: (1) Shame: If the patient was a very motivated student before treatment, and delayed his education due to a mental illness episode, and had to study in a school that was not commensurate with his ability (such as a vocational high school), even if the symptoms have fully recovered, there is still a shadow in his heart, and others unintentionally ask: “Which university do you go to?” may feel humiliated and refuse to go to school; or after being suspended from school due to a psychotic episode, and after the disease has remitted, the person feels ashamed of the symptoms of the episode he once had and never wants to return to that environment, and therefore does not want to go to school. (2) Can’t keep up: Some patients drop out of high school because they are sick, and after the disease is in remission, their families entrust them to get him to study in a specialized school, and because he has not experienced the learning process of high school, the patient can’t keep up with some courses, and refuses to go to school because of the fear of not passing the exam. Nanjing Brain Hospital Psychiatry Yu Dongshan 2, response: parents should not force it to school, do not say, “Where you fell, get up from where.” This slogan is easier said than done. The patient’s ability to cope with stress is already poor; does he not know the importance of school? He would not have given up school if shame and fear had not overwhelmed him. Since he doesn’t want to go to school, he has his own reasons. Even if he is forced to go to school, he may come back in a few months and lose even more than he is now (time wasted, tuition wasted, more mental torture, possible relapse of mental illness). Don’t confront him with silence. Although parents feel that he is suffering by continuing to go to school, they do not want him to abandon school, so they wait in silence. If the parents are in a strong position in the family, the patient does not want to go to school and does not dare to mention it, and on the surface it seems that nothing has happened, but because the matter is still hanging there, the patient is anxious because of uncertainty. The appropriate approach is to discuss with the patient and ask him what the next step is. If he can continue to go to school, he can’t go to school, he can repeat the exam, if he doesn’t want to retake the exam, he can find a job, if he can’t find a job, he can start his own business, if he doesn’t want to work, he can take a few months off. Let the patient feel that home is a harbor, home is a place where he can completely relax. Patients should be treated well and taken care of. On the contrary, high standards and strict requirements are not for them. If the patient chooses to find a job, if the patient has a business in his or her own home, the patient can also go directly to work in his or her own business, or if a relative or friend of the parents has a business. They can be approached to open the back door and let the patient work in the factory. If the patient wants to start his own business and do a small business, the parents should cooperate and support from planning, investment, stocking and standing store.
