Post-operative liver diet

The form of food should be determined according to the scope of surgery. Patients with simple liver resection, where the scope of surgery does not involve the gastrointestinal tract, can eat after the removal of gastric tube on the second day of surgery, but they should start with clear flow, and the food should be bland, soft and easy to digest and absorb, such as rice soup. If the surgery involves the gastrointestinal tract, such as hepatic resection combined with biliary-intestinal anastomosis, adhesions caused by previous abdominal surgery, or liver metastasis of intestinal cancer removed at the same time, you should wait until the function of the gastrointestinal tract is restored and then start eating according to medical advice. In addition, since surgical trauma can cause dysfunction of the digestive system, especially for senior patients, when choosing and feeding food, do not rush, but start from the simplest, and if there is no adverse reaction in the gastrointestinal tract, then transition to semi-liquid food, and eventually change to general food. Second, the variety of food should be comprehensive, while ensuring adequate calorie intake, for postoperative liver function impairment, but also reasonable intake of various dietary elements, especially high-quality protein, which is conducive to liver regeneration and liver function recovery. 1.High quality protein food Protein is the basic nutrition of human body, which is the basic component of antibodies, hormones, enzymes and various tissues and organs, and the malnutrition of cancer patients is firstly manifested as protein deficiency. Once protein is lacking in the patient’s body, it will lead to the decrease of immunity, endocrine disorders, and external manifestations such as poor physical strength, difficulty in recovering from illness and edema. After surgery, the first thing is to improve protein intake, fish, poultry, lean meat, seafood, animal liver, milk, eggs, soybeans are rich in protein. Among them, fish, poultry muscle fiber is delicate, low fat content, sufficient water, more easily digested and absorbed by the body, and then drink some milk every day is enough. 2, selenium-rich food selenium is the most important “liver factor”, also known by scientists as the human trace elements in the “king of cancer prevention”. Selenium has strong oxidizing and anti-cancer effects. Proper selenium supplementation after liver cancer surgery can improve patients’ immunity and anti-cancer ability, cut off the feeding source of cancer cells, reduce cancer pain and toxic side effects of radiotherapy. At the same time, the strong oxidizing property of selenium can also promote liver detoxification and anti-toxicity, and reduce the metabolic burden of liver. Food in life is the main source of selenium, in general, animal food is generally better than plant food in terms of selenium content and absorption utilization, seafood is the best, followed by animal offal, followed by eggs and lean meat, common plant food contains very low selenium, even negligible. 3, fresh fruits and vegetables Vitamins are also essential nutrients, after liver surgery should eat an appropriate amount of fruits and vegetables to supplement the lack of a variety of vitamins in the body. Many vitamins are strongly oxidizing and can help detoxify the liver, protect liver cells from viral infections and prevent recurrence of the disease. Cancer patients don’t need to deliberately pick fruits and vegetables, just alternate them according to taste preferences, or use fruit and vegetable juices instead. The following conditions should be avoided: 1. High-fat diet: High-fat diet can affect and aggravate the disease, while low-fat diet can reduce symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and abdominal distension of liver cancer patients. Patients with liver cancer have poor appetite and eat less. Without sufficient amount of balanced diet, it is necessary to increase the calorie of diet and eat fat and sweet food that can be easily digested and absorbed, such as honey, royal jelly. Cane sugar as well as vegetable oil, cream, etc. 2.High-salt diet: Especially the diet of cirrhotic patients with liver cancer combined with ascites should be more strictly restricted in sodium intake and should be given low-salt or even salt-free diet. 3.Nutritional products and supplements with complex or special ingredients: Because “high quality” nutritional products and supplements are often not easy to be decomposed by liver with weak liver function after liver cancer surgery, but also increase the burden of liver, which is not conducive to post-operative recovery. 4. Alcohol or drugs with unclear composition: Since alcohol and most drugs are metabolized by liver, post-operative liver attack and previous hepatitis and cirrhosis can lead to liver insufficiency, the intake of alcohol or liver-damaging drugs will increase the burden of liver and affect the recovery of liver function.
