Mind-body therapy is a deep-seated cure. In today’s high-tech, fast-paced and competitive society, although material life is very rich, mental tension and anxiety are common. These mental factors are often the cause of morbidity. In addition to language therapy, there are many ways to treat diseases caused by emotional and mental disorders in TCM, the most commonly used being the method of draining the liver and relieving depression. According to TCM theory, chronic mental tension, adverse stimulation, and depression can lead to liver qi stagnation. If the liver is not de-stressed, the qi will not flow smoothly and a variety of symptoms will appear, often accompanied by abnormal mental state. Different diseases can be treated with the same treatment, and TCM practitioners can treat many different diseases with the method of draining the liver and relieving depression. The most commonly used herbs are: Chai Hu, Yu Jin, Yuan Hu, Xiang Shen, Dan Shen, Su Xin Hua, Neem, and the commonly used herbal prescription is Yi Yao San (Bai Shao, Angelica, Chai Hu, Fu Ling, Bai Zhu, Licorice, Ginger, Peppermint). Here are some common diseases to illustrate. 1. Gastric and duodenal ulcers and inflammation The etiology and pathogenesis of peptic ulcers are not well understood, and nowadays there is a preference for multifactorial etiology, and psychological factors have been emphasized. Many believe that ulcer disease occurs as a result of long-term mood swings, which act as mediators through neuroendocrine mechanisms, causing a continuous rise in gastric acid secretion, resulting in increased fragility of the congested gastric mucosa and consequent erosion and ulceration. In the clinical treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers and inflammation, we often take into account the patient’s mental factors, in addition to applying treatments such as regulating qi, clearing heat, warming the middle, and tonifying benefits as appropriate according to the results of identification. Some of these patients have mental tension and depression, while others do not have symptoms of mental abnormality. Clinically, the method of detoxifying the liver and relieving depression can be administered to both types of patients, and can be added to the drugs used for ulcer disease: Chai Hu, Yu Jin, Yuan Hu and Xiang Shen. For some patients, they can directly use the remedy of detoxifying the liver and relieving depression, Prosperity San. Use this prescription plus or minus to treat. In practice, we add liver detoxifying and antidepressant drugs can significantly improve the efficacy. 2, chronic colitis Chronic colitis is a chronic inflammation of the colon caused by a variety of etiologies, the onset of which is also related to mental factors. Such as ulcerative colitis and allergic colitis, the onset of which has been shown to be related to anger, anxiety, depression, frustration, disappointment. In addition to intestinal symptoms, some of these patients are accompanied by psychological disorders. According to TCM identification, most patients have liver qi stagnation, and liver depression is one of the pathological mechanisms. We add liver-depressants to the prescriptions for the treatment of colitis, which can often have a good effect. Especially in the eradication of this disease has reliable efficacy. 3. Menstrual disorders Menstrual disorders refer to early or delayed menstruation, premenstrual tension, and dysmenorrhea. The appearance of these symptoms is closely related to mental factors. Women who are usually emotionally tense, impatient, feeling allergic, and easily agitated are more likely to occur. They are more likely to be aggravated when they encounter disturbances in their work and life and are mentally unhappy. According to Chinese medicine, menstrual disorders are often associated with liver depression and liver qi stagnation. Liver depression is an important factor in the development of the patient. The use of Chinese medicine to lift this knot and correct this pathology can achieve the effect of curing the root of the disease. The common treatment is to regulate the menstruation and nourish the blood, and the liver relaxing herbs that can be added are still Chai Hu, Yuan Hu, Yu Jin, Xiang Shen and so on, as well as Yi Yao San. The medicine that nourishes the blood and softens the liver, such as white peony, wolfberry, mulberry seeds, etc.; the medicine that clears liver fire, such as gentian grass, gardenia, grass cassia, etc.; the medicine that calms the liver and submerges the yang, such as magnet, stone cassia, ivory silk. This treatment method has good effect in treating irregular menstruation during puberty and menopause. 4. Breast lumps There are many kinds of breast lumps, and they are all related to mental factors. Chinese medicine often treats breast lumps by dispersing nodules, invigorating blood, regulating qi and dispelling phlegm. In these remedies, the addition of liver detoxifying drugs can significantly improve the effectiveness of treatment. The most commonly used formula for relieving depression in the liver is Prosperity San. This formula can be used as a base, with the addition of the above-mentioned drugs to detoxify the liver and relieve depression. These drugs can improve the mental state, adjust the balance of the body, relieve the depression and disperse the lumps, which can get rid of the lumps at the root. 5. Insomnia In clinical practice, insomnia can be divided into various types of evidence such as liver fire, phlegm fire disturbing the heart, blood stasis, and yin not converging yang. Regardless of the type of evidence, more or less accompanied by liver depression, can be added to de-stress the liver drugs. For example, it is appropriate to add Yu Jin and Chai Hu for deficiency heat; Yu Jin and Dan Shen for blood stasis; Yuan Hu and Xiang Shen for qi stagnation; Yuan Hu, Citrus aurantium and Yu Jin for phlegm and dampness. It is especially suitable for patients with anxiety and tension to use the method of draining the liver and relieving depression. 6, plum kernel gas Plum kernel gas is the name of the disease in Chinese medicine, the main symptoms are throat discomfort, foreign body feeling, swallowing, spitting out, or a small amount of phlegm and saliva. It is often accompanied by mood discomfort and chest tightness. Otolaryngological examination is often not positive. Chinese medicine believes that plum kernel gas is related to liver depression and phlegm obstruction. The treatment is to de-stress the liver and resolve phlegm. We can use Dao Yao San plus Yu Jin and Chai Hu as the main formula, and add the phlegm-transforming drugs Bei Mu, Lu Gen, Tian Tian Tian Fan, and Mandarin, as well as the knot-dispersing and qi-regulating drugs Fa Han Xia and Chen Pi. We have achieved very good results with this method.
