There are two key strategies to prevent colon polyps and the development of colon cancer: (1) Improve dietary habits and maintain regular and smooth bowel movements Most colon cancers evolve from colon polyps. The main factor in the prevention of colon polyps is the intracolonic environment: one is to reduce the level of secondary bile acids in the lumen, but rather to maintain the microecological balance. Daily life strategies include less intake of fatty foods that stimulate bile acid secretion and release, and frequent supplementation with physician bacteria. (2) Colonoscopy follow-up for people at high risk of colon cancer The main factor in whether a colon polyp evolves into colon cancer is the size of the colon polyp. The chance of malignant transformation increases dramatically with a large diameter of 1 cm or more, and generally speaking, it takes 6-12 months to increase to 1 cm or more. Therefore, it is considered that 6-12 months to review the colonoscopy is a reasonable follow-up interval. Colon polyps are found to be treated endoscopically in the near future.
