Early prevention and treatment of colonic polyps

With the change of diet structure and living habits in modern society, the incidence of colon polyps and colon cancer is gradually increasing. Early prevention and early treatment of colon polyps are important to reduce the risk of colon cancer. Colon polyps are abnormal growths in the colon wall, and there are different types of pathologies such as hyperplasia, inflammation, adenoma, etc. In clinical manifestations, symptoms such as blood in stool, change in stool habit and abnormal shape of stool may occur. The blood in stool caused by colon polyps is often different from the blood in stool caused by hemorrhoids, in that the blood appears in the stool, and the stool occult blood test can be positive, unlike hemorrhoids, where the blood comes after the stool; the change in stool habits mainly appears as constipation, due to polyps causing poor defecation, sometimes accompanied by abdominal pain; the stool is thinner and flatter due to the shape of polyps in the intestinal wall, instead of being discharged in a cylinder. In 1974, Dr. Morson and others published the article “Colorectal Polyp-Cancer Sequence”, which talked about the relationship between colon polyps and tumors, and the research on colon polyps became more and more advanced. Not all polyps and adenomas will inevitably become cancerous, and the evolution of polyps is a long process, usually 10-15 years. Correct treatment, correction of poor lifestyle, diet structure and regular checkups are the key points of colon polyp and colon cancer prevention. What are the predisposing factors that cause colon polyps? Firstly, from the genetic point of view, it is believed that the deletion of oncogene APC is the cause of multiple polyps and recurrent polyps, and some colon cancers are familially related; secondly, age factor is also more important, as age increases, the incidence of colon cancer increases; inflammatory diseases such as colitis is also a trigger for polyps; lifestyle habits such as diet (low fiber intake, abnormal diet structure) , smoking, irregular bowel habits (constipation, diarrhea); body constitution such as heavy damp heat, or Qi deficiency are also important predisposing factors that can easily cause colon polyps. To effectively prevent colon polyps, the following should be done: 1. Clearly understand the importance of colonoscopic polyp removal, especially for people over 40 years old, with positive fecal occult blood test, parents and siblings with a history of colorectal cancer, a history of polyps or adenomas at high risk, should have regular colonoscopy for early intervention and treatment. 2, weight control, epidemiological data have confirmed the relationship between obesity and colon polyps, which will increase the risk of colon cancer, the ideal body weight can be judged by the body mass index (BMI), BMI = weight (kg) / height squared, the ideal value is 22. The ideal value is 22. To control weight, we must achieve a balance between “eating” and “moving”. 3, intake of sufficient water, daily intake of about 2,000 to 3,000 ml of water, water can soften stool, help the body toxins material discharge. 4, from the perspective of diet, should control the calcium and magnesium ratio of reasonable intake, modern people are rich in material, in order to prevent osteoporosis, etc., more like to take calcium food and drugs, more calcium can not prevent colon polyps and colon cancer, containing calcium food mostly dairy products, beans, fish, shrimp, meat food, in the calcium supplement should also pay attention to the magnesium supplement, magnesium-rich foods such as nuts (pine nuts, hazelnuts, etc.), vegetables (such as greens, hazelnuts, etc.). vegetables (such as oleander, cicely, eggplant, radish, etc.); increase the intake of fiber substances; increase the intake of yogurt, lactobacillus, balance the disorder of intestinal flora; increase the intake of seaweed and other foods, seaweed and other foods rich in water-soluble fiber, can help the excretion of stool. 5, from the point of view of Chinese medicine, the risk of colon polyps and colon cancer is higher in people with Qi deficiency and dampness-heat constitution. Qi deficiency is characterized by weakness, shortness of breath, easy fatigue, fat tongue, slow pulse, and weak defense ability of the body, so you can take ginseng, astragalus, yam, etc. to strengthen the spleen; damp-heat people mostly like to eat fatty and sweet food, have excessive facial or skin oil, have bitter and sticky mouth, and have slippery pulse, so you can eat rice kernel, winter melon, poria, etc. The ideal mode of prevention is to adjust the constitution through medicine and food to achieve a calm state of the body.
