What are colon polyps?

Colonic polyp is a morphological term that refers broadly to a lesion in the colon that protrudes and bulges into the lumen.
Any raised lesion on the mucosa of the colon can be called a colonic polyp, but there are many different types of pathology.
What appears to be the same polyp to the naked eye is essentially a different disease. The prognosis and management of polyps of different nature are very different.
