Surgery for giant liver tumor in 16-year-old boy

At 11:00 pm on the second day of the Lunar New Year, the phone rang urgently, and it was a call from the operating room. The doctor on duty had encountered difficulties during surgery. A 16-year-old boy was operated on urgently due to a hemoperitoneum, and what was found intraoperatively was a huge ruptured and bleeding tumor in the right lobe of the liver. The mass occupied the whole right lobe of the liver, about 30*30cm in size, and there were several small satellite foci around the mass, but the good thing was that the tumor was confined to the right lobe of the liver. The child was from Liuzhou, Guangxi, and his parents were in their hometown, and the little boy lived with his aunt in our city. The child’s condition was very critical and there was a possibility of death at any time. I hurriedly communicated the condition with his family and informed them of the special nature of his condition. After the family understood, we immediately started a meticulous surgery. The right branch of the good portal vein of the right hepatic artery was carefully dissected and blocked, the perihepatic ligament was separated, the liver was freed, and the right lobe of the liver was precisely resected, with only 300 ml of intraoperative bleeding. Today I went to the ward to see the child, the patient’s condition has been stabilized, and the indicators have gradually recovered, and the child’s parents have arrived from their hometown. This Spring Festival was a meaningful one. I’m sorry that I can’t put up the pictures of the surgery.
