How long to quit smoking before your lungs are clean

The time it takes for the lungs to repair after quitting smoking varies from person to person, depending on the individual’s physical condition, the age of the smoker, the amount of cigarettes smoked daily before quitting, and whether there are other complications. Patients who smoke absorb and act on the toxic substances in the smoke, such as nicotine, immediately after inhaling them into the lungs, causing some damage that does not need to be excreted. However, after quitting smoking the patient’s lungs can repair themselves to some extent and can gradually restore their lungs to normal function. Generally, after 7 days of quitting smoking, the villi of the lungs damaged by the smoke will begin to regenerate, and it takes about 3-4 months for the lung function to gradually increase. In general, the recovery time is faster in young people than in older people. Therefore, patients who are addicted to smoking must be persistent in quitting and should not give up halfway. In the process of quitting smoking if a withdrawal reaction occurs, you can use methods such as distraction to help you persist in quitting smoking.
