Liver hardness is usually used to assist in diagnosing the presence of fibrosis and cirrhosis in the liver, and there are no specific international regulations on its normal value. Due to the different diets and living environments of people in various countries and regions, the texture, shape and hardness of the liver may vary slightly, so only a general range can be given. The normal value of liver hardness in our population is roughly 2.6-6.2kPa, 7.0-8.5kPa generally indicates mild fibrosis, ≥8.5 is significant liver fibrosis, and the higher the value, the higher the risk of cirrhosis. However, the normal range values may vary from hospital to hospital and region to region. Liver stiffness is the result of a liver ultrasound, which measures the relative elasticity of the liver by shaking the hand-held probe and applying pressure to the liver, resulting in a specific value. Liver fibrosis is commonly seen in a variety of chronic liver diseases, including viral hepatitis, fatty liver, alcoholic liver, and drug-related hepatitis. As the disease progresses, if left unchecked, it can lead to liver fibrosis, increased liver stiffness, and in severe cases, cirrhosis. However, liver fibrosis cannot usually be diagnosed by this one indicator, and needs to be combined with other tests such as routine blood, liver function, coagulation function, liver CT, etc., as well as clinical manifestations to diagnose liver disease. Liver disease and the presence of liver fibrosis are usually suspected when there are abnormal findings such as decreased serum albumin, increased transaminases, decreased coagulation function, abnormal size or hard masses of the liver seen on CT, and symptoms such as right upper abdominal discomfort, loss of appetite, jaundice, and dull complexion. Further examination under the guidance of a doctor is recommended to clarify the cause of liver fibrosis and the degree of sclerosis and to provide targeted treatment. Liver-protective drugs, such as polyene-phosphatidylcholine capsules and liver-clearing tablets, can be used for treatment as prescribed by the doctor.
