Can gout be cured?

Gout can be treated, but not cured. Gout is a metabolic disease that most often affects the first metatarsophalangeal joint, but can also affect large joints such as the back of the foot, ankle and knee. The disease is still not curable, but through medication and lifestyle interventions, the patient’s blood uric acid levels can be controlled so that acute joint swelling no longer occurs, and the disease can be clinically cured when the gout crystals in the body disappear. However, there is a risk of recurrence if uric acid rises again, so controlling blood uric acid levels is a key tool for curing the disease and preventing recurrence of gout.
