Causes of splenomegaly

  Causes of splenomegaly (1) Infectious splenomegaly: various acute and chronic infectious diseases, such as acute viral hepatitis, typhoid sepsis, systemic cornual tuberculosis, subacute bacterial endocarditis and schistosomiasis, etc. Half of them are accompanied by primary infectious disease manifestations, such as fever, chills, peripheral aches and pains, weakness, and laboratory test indicators.  (2) Silicosis splenomegaly: such as cirrhosis, portal or splenic vein thrombosis, portal hypertension mostly secondary to hepatitis B and C after cirrhosis decompensation, common manifestations ascites, bilateral lower limb edema, liver palms, spider nevus, sea serpent head phenomenon, laboratory tests can be seen in triple system reduction (white blood cells, red blood cells, platelets, especially thrombocytopenia is the most specific), hypoproteinemia.  (3) Hyperplastic splenomegaly: various causes of anemia, some kind of hemoglobinopathy, bone marrow fibrosis and true erythrocytosis, etc.  (4) Infiltrative splenomegaly: such as cerebroside-containing reticuloendothelial cell disease, neurophospholipid-containing reticuloendothelial cell disease, amyloidosis, and hemochromatosis.
