Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) develops in a chronic process, and although pain and stiffness are controlled with appropriate medication, regular functional exercise is the most important way to reduce or prevent physical deformity and disability. Patients should pay attention to the following points. 1. Patients must try to walk upright, straighten the spine as much as possible and do regular back stretching exercises. Such as chest expansion, push-ups, gymnastics, etc. 2, quit smoking, do deep breathing exercises 1-2 times a day to maintain the normal degree of chest expansion, smoking not only affects lung function, and increase the adverse effects of drugs. 3.Sleep on a wooden bed or a hard mattress, with a thin pillow, and try to lie on your back or prone, avoiding flexing and lying on your side. 4.Take hot baths, swimming is the best way to exercise for AS patients. 5. No special dietary control is needed for this disease, and no food has been found to cause or aggravate AS. The prognosis of AS patients is benign, and most patients have good functional status and working ability, with no difference in life expectancy from normal people. However, a few patients will experience disability, such as complete cervical spine ankylosis, hunchback, hip and sacroiliac joint involvement, etc.
