How long does it take to cure moderate depression

Moderate depression may be cured if it receives scientific and regular treatment, generally taking medication for more than 1 year, during which full amount and full course of medication should be taken to prevent relapse. The treatment of moderate depression generally requires 1-3 months of acute treatment, 3-6 months of consolidation treatment, and 6-12 months of maintenance treatment. After effective treatment, patients’ symptoms may improve significantly in 1-2 months and even return to normal. However, due to the high relapse rate of depression, if the medication is discontinued or reduced within 3 months, the patient’s depressive symptoms may easily relapse, and continuing to take the original medication after relapse may require a higher dose to control the symptoms. Therefore, clinically, it is generally recommended to carry out depression treatment in sufficient amount and duration, especially for moderate depression, in order to prevent the development of severe depression, it is generally recommended to take medication regularly for more than 1 year, which can basically achieve cure and can prevent relapse to a greater extent. It is worth noting that if depression relapses for the second time, its duration of taking maintenance medication is 3-5 years; if the relapse is more than three times, low-dose antidepressants are generally required for life. Due to individual differences, the choice and dosage of medication should be guided by a specialist.
