What should I do about headaches? What are the treatment methods?

Headache sufferers are invited to answer the following questions and put the answers in the consultation area to ask.
  1. Is it a migraine or a whole headache? It is a whole headache, not a migraine
  (1) If it is the whole headache, is the headache tight and heavy when it is cold but relieved when it is hot?
  (2) If it is the whole headache, is the headache swollen and painful, mainly on the top or sides of the head, or is there dizziness or bitterness in the mouth?
  (3) If it is a whole headache, is the head heavy as if it is wrapped, or does it have a lot of phlegm and a feeling of heaviness in the body?
  2. It is a migraine (or left-sided or right-sided), not the whole headache
  (1) If it is a migraine, is it a migraine after anger or tension, not related to cold?
  (2) Is it a migraine, but is it a migraine after getting cold? (2) Is it a migraine, is it a migraine after being cold?
  (3) Is it a headache, does the headache come on after exertion with back pain? Is it accompanied by back pain, or hair loss? Or memory loss?
4.Does the person with headache have a bloodless face? Do you have pale nails? Or less breath and lazy speech?
There are only two principles of headache: one is: headache when the meridians of the head are not open to qi and blood; the other is: headache caused by deficiency of qi and blood or deficiency of kidney essence that cannot reach the head.
There are two types of headaches caused by blockage of Qi and Blood: migraine and whole head pain.
There are several reasons why the head meridians are blocked by Qi and Blood and do not flow smoothly.
There are several causes of non-migraine head pain.
Blockage of meridians caused by cold – cold condensation; Yin deficiency causes Yang hyperactivity, and Qi and blood move up but not down – liver prosperity; phlegm clogs the pathways of Qi and blood – phlegm turbidity
There are two causes of migraine: Qi stagnation and blood stasis caused by anger, tension and anxiety; cold in the liver meridian that reaches the side of the head
For headaches caused by physical weakness, observe whether: if the kidney essence is insufficient, essence does not nourish the brain causing headaches; Qi and blood deficiency cannot nourish the brain causing headaches
From the analysis of the etiology of headache, it is generally divided into two categories: headache caused by cold (also called external headache) and internal headache. The point of difference between external headache and internal headache: whether the headache occurs in external headache, and whether there are external symptoms such as cold and fever, etc. If there is no discomfort of these symptoms, it is internal headache, and vice versa, it is external headache. If a person has a headache caused by a cold please refer to the cold section to regulate it, and it will not be discussed here.
Headaches caused by various diseases are not discussed in this article, and the original disease needs to be treated, so this article only discusses headaches as a symptom.
From the analysis of the location of headache
Wind is the most common type of headache on the left side.
Headache on the right side is usually caused by phlegm-dampness or blood deficiency.
Headache at the top of the head is usually caused by Yang deficiency and cold, while headache at the back of the head is caused by wind-cold.
Headache at the back of the head and neck is caused by wind and cold.
Lateral headache is mostly caused by evil in the liver and gallbladder.
From the analysis of the characteristics of headache attacks, headache with inward constriction is caused by cold evil, while headache with outward expansion is caused by heat evil.
  Order of judgment
One is: headache due to lack of circulation of qi and blood in the meridians of the head.
The other is: deficiency of qi and blood or deficiency of kidney essence cannot reach the head causing headache
There are two types of headaches due to blockage of Qi and Blood: migraine and head pain.
There are several causes of blocked qi and blood in the head meridians that do not flow smoothly.
There are several causes of head pain in non-migraine headaches.
Blockage of meridians caused by cold – cold condensation
Insufficient yin causes yang to be hyperactive and qi and blood to move up but not down – liver exuberance
Phlegm blocking the pathways of Qi and blood – phlegm turbidity
  Migraines have two causes.
Qi stagnation and blood stasis caused by anger and tension and anxiety
Cold in the Liver meridian that reaches the side of the head
Headaches caused by physical weakness, observe if.
If the kidney essence is insufficient, the essence does not nourish the brain causing headache
Qi and blood deficiency cannot nourish the brain causing headache

Headache is a disease that occurs almost all the time in a person’s life. Many diseases such as cold, hypertension, cervical spondylosis, plant nerve dysfunction and cerebrovascular disease can cause headache, and TCM health care and TCM treatment will emphasize the TCM analysis of headache instead of focusing on the disease name in Western medicine.
The other day, a white and thin young man came to my clinic with an anxious expression and said, “Doctor, I’ve had a headache for a long time, can you cure me?”
We doctors usually don’t say everything, so I said, “I’ll try my best to show you.”
At this point I looked at him more closely, he was less than thirty years old, his face was white with a greenish tinge, especially the sides of his nose were blue in color, his expression was anxious and painful, at this point I asked, “Do you have pain on one side or all over your head?”
”My left side hurts a lot, but my right side doesn’t,” he replied.
”Have you had any tests done?” I was going to rule out some diseases at this point.
”I’ve had a lot of tests, and I haven’t found out what it is. Some doctors say I have a neurological headache.”
I asked him, “Have you had a CT and a brain ultrasound?”
”Yes, I did, and it was fine.”
”When did you have a bad headache?” I asked again.
”I get headaches after 5 p.m. They make me want to throw up all the time, and sometimes I throw up what I ate at lunch.” He said.
”Are you usually afraid of the cold?” I asked further.
”I’m afraid of the cold. I’m afraid of the cold when I have a headache, and I’m afraid of the wind.”
”What else is wrong with you? Be sure to tell me.” I said seriously.
  ”I… I also have hepatitis B.”
Later he said he often had numbness in his legs, insomnia, bloating, did not want to eat anything when he had a bad headache, and when he had a headache, he would also have pain in his eyes, while he almost never had a headache when he got up in the morning.
His tongue was dark red with white coating and his pulse was thin.
I analyzed him as a typical liver yang deficiency. Liver yang qi rises from the left side of the body, and with insufficient liver yang qi, the yang qi on the left side cannot rise properly, especially when it is cold, the yang qi is obstructed and the qi of the liver and gallbladder meridian on the left side of the head does not work, causing pain. Why is it aggravated at 6 p.m.? Because 6 p.m. is the time of You according to the twelve hours, and You belongs to Jin in the classification of the five elements, and the theory of the five elements of Chinese medicine believes that Jin grinds wood, and liver and gallbladder belong to wood, so the qi of liver and gallbladder is weakest at You, so the symptoms of migraine will be most obvious.
In particular, he has hepatitis B. Hepatitis B affects the function of the liver, and the liver and gallbladder in TCM includes the function of the liver as generally believed. It will cause abdominal distension and loss of appetite.
I prescribed him compound yangjiao punch and then taught him the method of moxibustion of qihai and guanyuan points. After he was treated in this way for half a month, his headache did not recur, and later, once he felt he was going to have a headache or the headache just started, taking compound yangjiao punch could relieve the headache immediately.

Migraine occurs after anger or tension, not related to cold – Qi stagnation and blood stasis
If the migraine appears after anger or tension, not after cold, this is a Qi stagnation and Blood stasis type of migraine, which is caused by Liver Qi stagnation causing obstruction of Qi circulation, and since Qi is what leads blood flow, the Qi path is obstructed and blood flow is also obstructed forming Blood stasis. This type of headache is characterized by distension and pain, especially dullness, at the beginning of the attack, and if the attack is not treated for a long time, it will develop into distension and pain with stabbing pain, and the pain will be fixed in one place (or one point) of the head, which is unbearable, and massage is ineffective or simply refuses to massage the painful area.

Because of its warm nature, although most prescription books say it regulates qi without harming yin, it should be used with caution in severe yin deficiency (e.g. dry mouth and throat, hot hands and feet), or with the addition of several olives to regulate yin deficiency.

I had contact with a graduate student from Peking University. This male student would get migraine as long as it was you time, and when it was heavy, it would involve eye cramps and even nausea and vomiting, while he almost never had migraine in the morning and morning. His stomach is often full at night, but it gets better in summer. He also says he often has dreams of being chased, and sometimes feels a spinning sensation in his head when he sleeps flat on his back. This is typical of Liver Yang deficiency. I prescribed him compound yangjiao punch, which resulted in no pain soon. I instructed him again that he needs to take this medicine regularly and taught him the moxibustion method at the same time. Since his family is in Beijing, he went home and had moxibustion at the vital gate and guan yuan points regularly, and he slowly recovered.

It should be noted that patients with large liver and liver wind should not use it.
Step 3 Observe for the following symptoms.
Are there any symptoms Analysis Solutions Acupuncture points Food therapy
Headache comes on after exertion with lumbago, or hair loss, or memory loss – deficiency of kidney essence
If the headache is accompanied by lumbar pain, mental fatigue, dizziness, tinnitus, hair loss and other manifestations of the kidney system, it belongs to the type of headache with deficiency of kidney essence (qi), which needs to be regulated by tonifying kidney essence and kidney qi, using Zuo Gui Wan; moxibustion of Qi Hai and Guan Yuan points; food can be eaten with some wolfberry, sea cucumber and cuscuta.
  Acupuncture points
For people who do not have heat symptoms and do not have fire, moxibustion can be used on Qihai and Guangyuan points, which can benefit kidney qi and yuan qi, which is the function of kidney essence, and strengthen the function of kidney essence, thus preventing hair loss. You can moxibustion 10-20 minutes each time, adhere to 1-2 months or even longer.
It is important to note that moxibustion is not suitable for people with yin deficiency or heat symptoms such as tuberculosis, nephritis, thirst and dry mouth, dry throat, hot hands and feet, bad breath, constipation, and easy to catch fire.
  Food therapy
Choose sea cucumber, wolfberry and black bean for food therapy.
  Sea cucumber
Sea cucumber is salty and cold in nature, and belongs to the kidney meridian. It is suitable for people with deficiency of kidney essence and blood deficiency, but it should be noted that sea cucumber is contraindicated for patients suffering from acute enteritis, bacillary dysentery, cold, cough, asthma, loose stools, bleeding with stagnation and phlegm-dampness obstruction.
  Chinese wolfberry
It is suitable for people with liver and kidney deficiency or blood deficiency, with symptoms such as soreness and weakness of the waist and knees, hair loss and gray hair, loss of vision, fatigue, fatty liver and other diseases without damp-heat manifestation.
It should be noted that: during the cold, loose stools and people with phlegm and dampness in the body is not suitable for consumption of wolfberry. People with phlegm-dampness are characterized by laziness (or slow movement), abdominal distension, usually phlegm, slow speech, and easy mental fatigue.
It should be noted that people with kidney essence deficiency generally have two trends, one manifesting as kidney yang deficiency and the other manifesting as kidney yin deficiency (kidney yin deficiency is not allowed to do moxibustion), the self-care of these two types of people can refer to the insomnia chapter on kidney yang deficiency and kidney yin deficiency for self-analysis and treatment, and will not be repeated.
Whether it is kidney yang deficiency or kidney yin deficiency, kidney essence deficiency is the core of them, therefore, treatment of hair loss, only to supplement kidney yin or kidney yang is not effective, the focus is to supplement the kidney essence.
  Traditional Chinese Medicine
Zuo Gui Wan is composed of Shu Di Huang, Shan Yao, Fructus Lycii, Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum, Chuan Niu Knee, Semen Cuscutae, Deer Antler Gum, and Turtle Board Gum, and is suitable for those who suffer from hair loss, seminal emission, forgetfulness, and weakness of the back and legs.
Note that it is not suitable for patients with cold or fever, avoiding oily food and sexual intercourse during taking the medicine.
In addition, this formula is based on nourishing yin medicine, which is often taken for a long time and can easily affect the digestive function of the spleen and stomach, leading to symptoms such as abdominal distension and loss of appetite, so people with abdominal distension, loss of appetite and a tasteless mouth (which is caused by dampness impeding the function of the spleen and stomach) should use it with caution.
People with headache have less blood on their face, pale white nails, and less qi and lazy speech – deficiency of both qi and blood
People with headaches such as this with shortness of breath and weakness, dizziness, easy panic and palpitations, and less florid complexion and nails, but without obvious symptoms such as distress and bitterness, generally belong to the type of Qi and Blood deficiency. The treatment requires tonifying Qi and Blood by strengthening the spleen and nourishing the heart to nourish Qi and Blood.
