Precautions after thyroid surgery

The thyroid surgical wound is drained using negative pressure drainage tubes to drain tissue fluid, lymphatic fluid, and bloody exudate from the surgical area, and is usually discharged after 2-3 days postoperatively. The thyroid surgical incision is closed intradermally with metal titanium-nickel sutures, and the stitches are removed 5 days after the surgery by registration at the thyroid clinic. Post-operative review After thyroid surgery, the thyroid function should be reviewed 3-4 weeks after surgery, regardless of the extent of thyroid surgery and the benign or malignant nature of the thyroid gland. If the thyroid function is normal, no medication is needed, and regular follow-ups are noted (intervals can be extended from 3 months to 6 months to 12 months, in succession). If postoperative symptoms of hypothyroidism such as muscle weakness, bradycardia, swollen eyelids and cheeks, or excessive menstruation in women occur, they should be reviewed as an outpatient. If postoperative thyroid function suggests elevated thyroid stimulating hormone, hypothyroid hormone or if the patient has thyroid cancer, thyroid hormone medication is required for supplementation or thyroid hormone suppression therapy for patients with thyroid cancer. Post-operative thyroid diet On the day of surgery, you can eat warm and cool liquid food to avoid vasodilation of the neck. A semi-liquid diet can be consumed 2-3 days after surgery. After discharge from the hospital, patients should live a regular life, maintain optimism, avoid overexertion, and pay attention to keeping warm in winter. Avoid irritating food, smoking and alcohol, pickled, smoked, barbecued and moldy food. Thyroid cancer patients should limit the intake of iodine-containing food. Discomfort in the neck after thyroid surgery The essence of surgical scar is the proliferation of fibrous tissue to repair the damaged surgical incision. In fact, except for the scar caused by fibrous tissue in the incision, there will be proliferation of fibrous tissue to repair the surgical site in the deep part of the incision. 2 weeks to 3 months after surgery is the reconstruction period of these tissues, which may contract and pull to the trachea, esophagus and its surrounding tissues, subjective feeling of difficulty in breathing (breath-holding), swallowing pulling If you just feel more difficult, you need to wait for recovery.
