Exercise is the basis for depression self-help

”Life is about exercise” and depressed patients can’t get out of it without exercise. Doing as much as you can is of great benefit to depressed patients. For example, writing, drawing, singing and playing ball are good available exercises. Due to mental reasons, most depressed patients feel incompetent and useless, they do not want to move, do not want to do anything, and have no interest and enthusiasm to do things. Sitting all day long, sighing and being shut up all day long are extremely common among depressed patients. Some even feel that the future is bleak, life is long and hard, and that whatever they do will not help. This is the “sense of helplessness” of depressed patients. This “helplessness” and depression will form a vicious cycle: the more serious the depression, the stronger the helplessness; at the same time, the increased helplessness will lead to depressed patients more depressed, work and activities to further reduce the enthusiasm, the result is, of course, nothing, and then blame themselves incompetent, useless, and intensify the symptoms of depression. To treat depression, it is necessary to break this vicious circle. The most basic way to break this vicious circle is to increase activity and do what you can. The main benefits of activity for depressed patients are: ① Activity can make people feel better. The feeling of depression can be diminished because after activity, one is no longer focused on one’s own bad feelings. ②Activities can reduce the feeling of fatigue. Because long periods of inactivity, sitting for days, muscle fatigue is very easy. And because the blood flow is slow, fatigue recovery more slowly. Once the activity, the blood flow is smooth, the feeling of fatigue will be reduced. ③Activity helps to find self-confidence. Through activity, one can find that one’s abilities are not lost, and even discover one’s other potentials and regain self-confidence. ④Activity improves one’s ability to think. It is through activity that one considers what to do and how to do it, helping to restore control over one’s life. In carrying out activities, it is important to be persistent. If one is only active for a while or a few days and then gives up the activity due to low mood, one will never see hope. Another thing to note is that if the depression persists despite feeling better through the activity, further thoughts related to the depression need to be identified and corrected.
