Heavy dampness is neither due to yin deficiency nor yang deficiency. Most cases are caused by external dampness or weakness of the spleen and stomach, which generates dampness internally.
Yin or Yang deficiency in Chinese medicine basically does not cause heavy dampness. If there are signs of heavy dampness, such as heavy limbs (limb weakness and heaviness), heavy head, chest and epigastric constriction (feeling of fullness and stuffiness in the chest and abdomen), nausea and vomiting, and excessive amount of leukorrhea, etc., it is mostly due to an external infection or internal injuries.
If you have an external infection of dampness, you will have symptoms such as a heavy head and body, aching and heaviness of the limbs, and fever with a bad cold (fear of cold). If the dampness is caused by over-eating cold and raw food, weakness of the spleen and stomach, and internal storage of dampness, there will be symptoms such as mental depression, sleepy limbs, chest and epigastric congestion, loss of appetite, and indigestion.
