Clinical staging study of ankylosing spondylitis

  Abstract: Objective To analyze the correlation between the severity of the sacroiliac joint and the spine and/or hip radiographic manifestations in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and to investigate their clinical staging.  Methods Thirty-seven patients with confirmed AS underwent X-ray examination of the sacroiliac joint and the affected spine and/or hip, and the X-ray films were scored by two physicians on two separate blinded reviews.  Among the 37 patients, 30 patients (81%) had grade II or higher spine involvement and 15 patients (40.5%) had grade II or higher hip involvement.
