Ichthyosis is known in Chinese medicine as tinea versicolor and snake body. There are several types of ichthyosis, and the common type is more common. The onset of ichthyosis vulgaris usually starts a few months after birth, but there are also cases that develop at birth or soon after birth, and it is usually most obvious at the age of 2 to 3 years. The typical skin rash is dry, rough, pigmented, snakeskin-like or fish scale flaking on the extremities and trunk, especially on the extremities of both lower limbs. The rash is aggravated in autumn and winter, and it naturally improves in summer, usually without conscious symptoms or with slight itching. Chinese medicine believes that ichthyosis is mainly due to congenital deficiency of endowment and deficiency of blood in the lung and spleen, resulting in wind and blood dryness and loss of skin nourishment. Modern medicine believes that ichthyosis is a kind of hereditary skin disease, and there is no good treatment method yet. The symptoms are dry skin, snakeskin-like or fish scale flaking, itching, heavy in winter and light in summer. The lips and nails are pale, the face is atrophied, and there is dizziness and palpitations from time to time. The texture is talkative, the coating is thin and white, and the pulse is thin. It can be treated with Nourishing Blood and dispelling wind and moistening soup, (30 grams of chicken blood vine, 12 grams of angelica, 20 grams of lady’s mantle, 20 grams of mulberry, 10 grams of stiff silkworm, 20 grams of tribulus terrestris, 15 grams of rehmannia, 20 grams of black sesame, 18 grams of white peony, 10 grams of tannin, 15 grams of northern astragalus, 5 grams of licorice), decoction, with the effect of nourishing blood and dispelling wind and moistening dryness. 2, Yin deficiency and blood dryness type manifests as dry skin, gray-brown or brown-black, fish scale flaking in winter, dry mouth and troubled heart, hot hands and feet, dry stool. The tongue is red with little coating and the pulse is thin. It can be treated with Sha Shen Mai Dong Tang plus reduction, (Sha Shen 30 grams, Mai Dong 15 grams, Yu Zhu 20 grams, Bai He 15 grams, Dendrobium 12 grams, Sheng Di 20 grams, Red Peony 12 grams, Dan Pi 10 grams, Huai Shan Yao 15 grams, Licorice 5 grams), which can nourish Yin, activate blood and moisten dryness. The external treatment method can also use 30 grams of peach kernel, 10 grams of safflower, 30 grams of henbane, 30 grams of white fresh skin, 30 grams of white and each, 20 grams of thornbush, 30 grams of yellow essence, 1 dose of water decoction daily to wash the affected area externally; or use Guihong glycerin application: 30 grams of angelica, 30 grams of peach kernel, 20 grams of comfrey, 10 grams of licorice, 10 grams of safflower, 30 grams of white and, concentrated in water decoction, mix with appropriate amount of glycerin to apply externally to the affected area. Ichthyosis is a difficult disease, and there is no good treatment method in western medicine. Chinese herbal medicine treatment can achieve better results. It can effectively control ichthyosis from attacking in winter, or significantly reduce the symptoms of dry and flaky skin. The treatment should be started in autumn, and the medication should be taken throughout the winter and stopped after the spring. It is also possible to apply topical emollient skin care agents such as Skin Boost Ointment and Urea Ointment. Patients suffering from ichthyosis should be reminded to go to a professional hospital for treatment before using the medicine, and not to listen to the prescriptions so as not to delay or aggravate the disease.
