Notes on medication for children with precocious puberty

  1. The purpose of the treatment is to inhibit the rapid development of the gonads for a period of time, in order to delay skeletal maturation and provide the possibility of increasing the final height in adulthood. 2. The drug used is “gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogue (GnRHa)”, which should be administered until the bone age reaches 11.5 years (girls) or 12.5 years (boys); the drug should be administered once every 4-6 weeks as needed and should not be changed without authorization. 3.Regular follow-up: ・Serum sex hormone level should be rechecked after every 3 injections; ・Bone age should be rechecked once a year or half a year; ・Sexual development and growth should be followed up regularly during the medication period, and recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) should be used at the same time when the annual growth rate of height is lower than 6cm/year. GnRHa has no interfering effects with other drugs commonly used in childhood. 5.After discontinuation of the drug, regular review and observation of sexual development and growth should be carried out.
