Gallbladder stones are a common and frequent disease in general surgery, and better diagnostic and therapeutic conditions are available. I will provide some reference opinions for the patients with gallbladder stones in a short and easy-to-understand text. As far as the current medical situation in China is concerned, gallbladder stones are mostly found in two ways, firstly, patients with sudden onset of pain in the right upper abdomen or upper middle abdomen are diagnosed with gallbladder stones after emergency consultation, and secondly, they are found by ultrasound during the usual physical examination, and a significant proportion of them have no previous abdominal pain, i.e. resting stones. ”Do I need surgery, when and by what method?” In general, patients who have had abdominal pain and fever associated with gallbladder stones have indications for surgery for gallbladder removal. As for patients with static stones, if they do not have chronic comorbidities such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease, I generally recommend regular follow-up and decide whether or not to operate in conjunction with the patient’s condition. Of course, for some small multiple stones or sediment-like stones, they need to be taken seriously, as these stones may fall into the common bile duct via the cystic duct and cause troublesome cholangitis, and severe septic cholangitis may cause infectious shock and biliary pancreatitis. Therefore, even during follow-up, it is important to pay attention to it and perform regular abdominal ultrasound and liver function tests. Currently, the surgical treatment for gallbladder stones is mainly laparoscopic cholecystectomy, which has been widely accepted and recognized because of its high efficiency and minimal invasiveness. However, it is worth mentioning that laparoscopic surgery is not guaranteed for any patient with gallbladder stones, and some patients still need to be converted to traditional open surgical treatment due to abdominal inflammation, adhesions, and anatomical features of the gallbladder-biliary system, and some need to be combined with ERCP examination or surgical biliary tract exploration. Therefore, the majority of patients can consult with their treating physicians about this matter during the consultation. It is believed that the appropriate surgical procedure will help you to be relieved of gallbladder stones as soon as possible and restore your health quickly.
