How is hepatic encephalopathy staged?

The first phase (prodromal phase) is characterized by mild personality changes and behavioral disorders, such as euphoria or indifference, unkempt clothing or defecation. The patient’s response is still accurate, but the words are slurred and slow, and there may be flapping tremor or asterixis, also known as hepatic tremor: ask the patient to extend both arms flat, the elbow joint is fixed, the palm of the hand is extended dorsally, and when the fingers are separated, the hand is seen to be deflected laterally, with sharp and irregular flapping tremor of the metacarpophalangeal joint, wrist joint, and even the elbow and shoulder joints. The patient was asked to hold the doctor’s hand tightly for one minute, and the doctor could feel the patient shaking. Most EEGs are normal. This period lasts for several days or weeks, and sometimes the symptoms are not obvious and easily ignored.
