The provincial clinical medical technology special project started last year, which is a major medical research project set up by the provincial government to realize the clinical application of the latest medical research achievements, effectively improve the level of treatment and highlight the clinical translation. Chang Renan, Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery, Nantong University Hospital In response to the high incidence of liver tumors and the difficult treatment situation in the region, the team led by Prof. Chen Zhong has devoted itself to research on precise liver resection and perioperative management. The project will use the digital surgery technology platform to reconstruct individual liver tomographic image data into a digital 3D visualized liver model, which in turn will provide precise quantitative analysis of liver anatomical structure and morphological characteristics of lesions, and combine with virtual reality technology for virtual liver resection and surgical planning. The project features the extensive penetration of minimally invasive surgical concepts and techniques in the field of liver surgery, which will further promote the rapid recovery and long-term outcome of liver tumor patients. It is reported that Professor Chen Zhong, the leader of our hepatobiliary surgery team, was awarded the first batch of medical leading talents and innovative team project of the provincial “Science, Education and Health Project” in 2011. After 4 years of continuous efforts, he has introduced many advanced technologies, especially in precision liver resection, laparoscopic liver resection and comprehensive treatment of liver tumors. In the diagnosis and treatment of liver cancer, we have carried out multidisciplinary standardized treatment with imaging, hepatology, gastroenterology, intervention, chemotherapy, etc. to achieve the most optimal treatment effect of liver cancer. In addition, the hepatobiliary surgery team has recently successfully passed the annual assessment of the provincial health department, and has won many provincial science and technology progress awards and provincial new technology introduction awards in recent years, published more than 20 SCI papers in 2013, with a total impact factor of more than 60 points, received 4 national invention patents, and spent more than 10 million yuan on scientific research. Professor Chen Zhong, the leader of the team, has been recognized by experts at home and abroad for his work in the field of hepatobiliary surgery and has been invited to serve as a reviewer for World J Gastroenterol, Gastroenterol Res Prac, Arch Med Res, Scandinavian J Gastroenterol, World J Heptol and other journals. He has served on the editorial board of five journals including Chinese Journal of Experimental Surgery. He has also been appointed as a reviewer for the National Science and Technology Progress Award, National Natural Science Foundation of China and several provincial and municipal projects. The hepatobiliary surgery team actively participates in various international exchanges, and has established cooperation with Cleveland Medical Center in the United States and the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom, etc. Many members of the team have gone abroad for many times to study and exchange, while inviting top international experts such as John Fung, President of the International Society for Liver Transplantation, and Schauer, President of the American Society for Endoscopic Surgery, to lecture at our hospital. Every year, we hold national continuing education programs or international hepatobiliary surgery forums to provide a platform for learning and exchange for our colleagues at home and abroad.
