Nowadays, the material used for skull repair in the main and western parts of the Union Hospital is mainly a three-dimensional pre-shaped titanium mesh. It is made of titanium alloy, and it is made into a mesh with a very strong texture. The biggest advantage of this material is that it can be used for MRI of the head. In general, MRI is not suitable for metal implants, but this titanium material does not affect it. In addition, the three-dimensional pre-shaped titanium mesh is pre-shaped according to the patient’s pre-surgical CT 3D cranial imaging data, which often fits the patient’s skull very well and is basically symmetrical with the shape of the contralateral skull bone. After cranial repair with this 3D shaped titanium mesh, the skull is often bilaterally symmetrical and has a more aesthetic appearance, which is especially suitable for patients with defects involving the forehead.
