Treatment of precocious puberty

The theory of Chinese medicine is that precocious puberty belongs to excessive yang energy, and herbs that nourish yin and lower fire are used to keep the organism in a balanced state, and currently the commonly used medicines are Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan and Da Yin Wan. In the early stage of precocious puberty, when breasts and testicles are just starting to grow and bone age is not obvious ahead of time, taking Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan and Da Teng Yin Wan can control breast development in girls and spermatorrhea in boys, stabilize emotions and delay development. If you can insist on taking the medicine regularly, and at the same time control the diet properly, don’t have too many meat dishes, scientific and reasonable nutrition, meat and vegetables, and don’t take tonic products indiscriminately, the effect is still very good. Among the children with precocious puberty that I treated, some of them only used traditional Chinese medicine without injections and also achieved better results. Chinese medicine is low cost and easy to take. However, if you take medicine every day, some children can’t stick to it and stop eating; some children can’t control their diet and eat too much meat and vegetables, which also affects the effect. Most parents do not pay attention to their children’s development and often bring their children to see them only when their children’s development is obvious, and the effect of using Chinese medicine at this time is not good. Chinese medicine is not very good at controlling the bone age. If the child’s bone age is more obviously overdeveloped, it needs to be treated with western medicine. Western medicine is injections, currently there are two kinds: leuprolide and treprostinil, usually one injection a month, which is very effective in controlling the development. Even if you are already menstruating, you can temporarily skip your period and resume it after a period of time when you stop the medication. Normal secondary sex characteristics development begins in the hypothalamus of the brain, and pubertal development starts when the hypothalamus produces gonadotropin-releasing hormone. Gonadotropin releasing hormone acts on the pituitary gland, which produces gonadotropins, namely follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). Follicle stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone act on the ovaries and testes, causing them to produce estrogen and androgen, and estrogen and androgen cause the body to begin secondary sex development. The structure of the injection is similar to the gonadotropin-releasing hormone produced by the thalamus, but without its function, it competes with the pituitary gland so that the pituitary gland temporarily does not produce large amounts of follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone, returns to childhood levels, and growth is temporarily stopped. During the treatment period, the growth rate returns to pre-developmental levels, height grows 5-6 cm a year, and bone age increases by no more than one year, thus extending the growth period and winning time to grow and, therefore, improve adult height. The growth of height needs enough time. If the bone age of girls is already 14-15 years old, and the bone age of boys is already 15-16 years old, there is not much room for height growth, and it is not effective to hope to improve height through treatment at this time. If you want to improve height, you need to start treatment early and the treatment should be long enough. The treatment of precocious puberty and early sexual development belongs to the category of selective treatment, which requires full communication and discussion between doctors and parents to determine the treatment method based on a variety of factors such as the age when the child’s development starts, height, growth potential, and the state of development of secondary sexual characteristics. Many parents want their children to be taller, and in recent years, the use of growth hormone has become more and more common. Growth hormone was originally used to treat children with growth hormone deficiency, and the treatment is usually very effective for such children. Children with precocious puberty are usually not growth hormone deficient, and growth hormone is also used in order to improve their height. In general, children with precocious puberty do not need to add growth hormone, but for those children who are short in basic height and late in treatment, they can try simultaneous growth hormone if their financial conditions allow. Some children with simultaneous growth hormone have accelerated their growth rate and increased their adult height, while some have poor results. You can treat them while observing and analyzing them comprehensively. Adequate exercise and sleep, and reasonable nutrition are the basis for preventing precocious growth and promoting height growth. Therefore, during the treatment period, it is equally important to ensure children’s sleep and exercise, and diversify and balance nutrition.
