How to read cervical cancer biopsy results

Cervical cancer is the most common type of malignant tumor in women’s gynecology and can usually be determined by colposcopic biopsy. The biopsy result is mainly to see if cancer cells are found, and there is also a preliminary pathological grading. However, since no surgical treatment has been done, the results alone cannot be determined, and the stage can only be determined by combining the pathology and imaging examination after surgery. The biopsy result of cervical cancer may be normal and nothing is found, or it may be squamous cancer cells or adenocarcinoma cells. Most of the cervical cancers are squamous carcinomas, so there are also some that belong to squamous epithelial atypical hyperplasia. If it is severe atypical hyperplasia, it is precancerous, but it is not cancerous at this time, so it can be treated by local conization. It is also recommended to check the HPV virus, if there is virus infection, further antiviral treatment is needed. Because most of cervical cancer is caused by HPV virus infection, so treating this virus also achieves the purpose of treating cervical cancer. If the biopsy results suggest cancer, further comprehensive treatment such as expanded surgery is needed.
