When it comes to liver disease many people (including health care professionals) tend to associate it only with hepatitis (especially viral hepatitis B), which is a big misunderstanding. Viral hepatitis is only a small part of liver disease, just as a large tree has many branches, liver disease also includes many more common diseases than hepatitis, such as alcoholic liver disease caused by alcohol abuse; drug-induced drug liver damage; fatty liver caused by various factors that disrupt fat metabolism in the body, and so on. Whether it is viral hepatitis, alcoholic, drug-induced or fatty liver, etc., what they all have in common is that they cause damage to liver cells and affect their normal function, thus, causing physical disease. Due to the histological characteristics of the liver, it is determined that the repair of damaged liver cells is not possible to restore the normal tissue structure like other body organs, but rather fibrosis occurs. With repeated episodes of hepatocyte damage (inflammation), the degree of liver fibrosis becomes more and more severe until cirrhosis is formed, and even cancer may occur. Due to the compression of the small blood vessels (mainly portal vein system) in the cirrhotic liver, the blood return is blocked, resulting in portal hypertension, esophagogastric varices and life-threatening hemorrhage due to rupture of varices in severe cases; the compression of the biliary system in the liver results in impaired bile excretion, jaundice on the one hand, causing indigestion, especially the digestion and absorption of fatty substances; on the other hand On the other hand, bile stasis will further aggravate the damage of hepatocytes, and liver failure will occur. The extrusion of the lymphatic duct system in the liver and the lymphatic reflux disorder is one of the main causes of ascites in liver cirrhosis. The dysfunction caused by the destruction of the liver cells themselves will bring more serious consequences to the body, mainly including: 1. Metabolic disorders of the three major substances (sugar, protein and fat), especially protein metabolism disorders, will lead to albumin deficiency, edema (including ascites, pleural effusion, etc.) and malnutrition in the body; 2. The function of other organs in the body is affected by the continuous accumulation of toxic substances and hormones in the body. In severe cases, liver failure and liver coma occur. Therefore, liver disease should be treated early; in principle, comprehensive treatment such as removing the cause, liver protection, anti-fibrosis and symptomatic treatment is the main focus. Specific treatment should be individualized, both according to the different stages of liver disease at the time of consultation, to be treated; do not give drugs arbitrarily, otherwise, not only ineffective, but will aggravate the disease, accelerate the development of liver disease. It is recommended that patients with liver disease should seek consultation and treatment from an experienced specialist at a regular hospital as soon as possible to avoid financial loss and delay.
