  How long it takes to get well on venlafaxine is related to the severity of the condition and there are individual differences.  Venlafaxine is mainly indicated for the treatment of various types of depression, including depression with anxiety states, and generalized anxiety disorder. Venlafaxine usually takes effect in 1-2 weeks, and should be taken in full doses and for the full duration of treatment until the symptoms of depression or anxiety have completely disappeared. However, after recovery, treatment should be maintained for about 3-6 months until social functioning is restored and the drug is gradually discontinued, and if there is any discomfort during this period, the doctor should be consulted and the medication should be adjusted.  Some adverse reactions may occur, such as weakness and fatigue, and less commonly, photosensitivity and allergic reactions. Some patients may also experience hypertension, hypotension, syncope, tachycardia, loss of appetite, constipation and other adverse reactions, which are generally tolerable and do not affect the efficacy of the drug.
